About

This exhibit was created by Adrian Veenje as part of RIT's Spring 2018 Illuminated Manuscripts class.

This is an exhibition of the Traite Du Blason written by Clement Prinsault in the late 15th century. Focusing primarily on a copy currently owned by Les Enluminures, the exhibition outlines the purposes and history of this work, with a special emphasis on the role of patrons in its reproduction. Other copies are used to facilitate the discussion; notably, a luxurious copy with a minature of Charles VIII, a tidy copy also owned by Les Enluminures, the original presentation copy bearing Prinsault's name, an incomplete copy dedicated to the House of Bioncourt, and the first known printed copy. A folio from a work that influenced Prinsault is also included.
